Server problem.. Help! Help!

Yesterday I received an instruction from KL to change the server connection at the Sibu server site, KCH3.. Since I was in Kuching, so I had to guide my Sibu staff to do the change. Everything was smooth as he was able to capture my instructions and did the right thing..

But then.. last night, there was one SMS.. THE SIBU KCH3 SITE WAS DOWN!!! TOTAL SYSTEM DOWN!!! THIS IS SERIOUS!!! And my colleague also called me to confirm. Cannot be? I know I did everything correct during my trip there last Tuesday? All exactly according to how it was suppose to be? And my staff cant be doing the wrong thing yesterday morning.. Coz the change was actually very very simple.. Just interchange a cable from the router with one that is hanging there.. HOW CAN IT GO WRONG???

Without knowing what was wrong, I was thinking and thinking deeply there.. Every possibilities came in to my mind.. Too many possibilities: Cable type is wrong, switch not configured properly, staff did it wrong, server down, server problem, etc… I even thought of catching an early flight to Sibu today but alas, last minute how to get any flight?

So last night whole nite I was there thinking thinking thinking.. I cant get to sleep at all. I know I rolled on the bed for quite some time… Call me fanatic, but since KCH3 is my project, I cant let anything happened to it just like that!! Especially when I am new so I need to proof my worth to my dept and also I sure don wan any complains to come in to myself, my dept or even my company!!

I woke up quite early today.. and so, after my staff got to work, I called him and asked him to go to the site again… In the end, after doing lots of diagnostics, I got no choice but to ask him to normalize the connections.. So far so good.. Everything was back to normal like before.. But still, I was not satisfied.. I must find out what was wrong! Is it me, my staff or the equipment problem.. Making the system up again is one thing.. But I also want to find out mistakes.. So after another round of diagnostic, I am very sure it is one of the server’s problem. Phew! Not my mistake.. haha.. as least I can relief myself as I didn’t do anything wrong.. :D

Ok so problem identified but not solved.. So I guess there’s only one thing left to do: another Sibu trip :P and of course: A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP!! :D
